Chinese ink and color on silk vertical painting attributed to Qian Weicheng (1720-1772) depicting figures in a landscape scene. At the top, a waterfall cascades from high mountains into a stream that runs past traditional buildings set among dense green trees and foliage. At the bottom, two men are seated in a pavilion and one man crosses a bridge over the stream. The painting is signed at the bottom left “respectfully painted by chen Qian Weicheng” with two red seals of the artist reading “chen Weicheng” and “gonghui.” These seals are consistent with two seals on a painting by Qian Weicheng illustrated Lot 8221 of Bonham’s New York 19 March 2018 Chinese Works of Art and Paintings auction (sold for $6250 including premium). Measurements: Painting: 73” x 18 1/4" (mounting: 79” x 24”). Condition: The painting itself is in very good overall condition with only a few tiny spots and rubbed areas. It is slightly wavy in the mid-section. There is significant foxing on the white silk mounting and some soiling and foxing on the back. The top and bottom scroll bars were trimmed off years ago for framing. The painting is not framed or backed and can be easily rolled for shipping. Provenance: Tucson, Arizona estate.
