23" High Chinese Han Dynasty Earthenware Pottery Stick Man Figure
item#: 1397027
price: $1,200.00
Chinese Han dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD) earthenware statue of a man, commonly referred to as a “stick man.” These figures were modeled after wooden examples. The arms, which likely were wood, and the clothing have disappeared over time. A custom-made acrylic stand is included. Stands about 23” high (about 24” including the stand). An example can be found on page 61 (item 41) of “A Connoissuer’s Guide to Chinese Ceramics.” A color illustration of another example is on page 73 (plate 63) of “Chinese Ceramics: A New Comprehensive Survey” by He Li. Very good, solid overall condition. This piece was purchased in Hong Kong in 1996 from the Chinese Antique Centre on Hollywood Road and is from an Arizona collection.
