Japanese woodblock print by Kuniyoshi (1797-1861) depicting the actors Ichikawa Danjuro VIII and Nakayama Genjuro in a scene from a play at the Nakamura Theater about a competition between five chivalrous men. The image is signed at the left side "Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi ga" with the red Yoshi Kiri seal below. Published by Ibaya Sensaburo the 8th month of 1847. Paper: 14 1/2" x 9 7/8". The panel is the right side of a diptych from the series "Select Series of Book Titles." Very good overall condition. There are a few tiny pin holes and a very small loss to the paper at the bottom left.
