Japanese Meiji Showa Cast Iron Hailstone Choshi Sake Pot Copper Handle
item#: 1506346
price: $250.00
Japanese late Meiji to early Showa period cast iron sake kettle (choshi) with the characteristic flattened spout decorated around the full body in a bas-relief hailstone pattern. The copper handle stands upright. The lid also appears to be made from thin copper sheet and has a small round finial. Three small bosses on the base serve as feet. These iron kettles were used to heat sake during the cold winter months. Early 20th century to possibly late 19th. 5 1/8" to the top of the handle and about 7 1/4" across to the tip of the spout. Very good overall condition.
