Yasuda Marked Japanese Meiji Kyoto Satsuma Vase Jar with Six Samurai
item#: 1503843
price: $450.00
Japanese Meiji period Kyoto Satsuma baluster form vase or jar with upright neck decorated around the circumference in polychrome enamels with six samurai set against a faintly crackled cream-colored background. On the side of the jar at the midsection is a red hand scripted “Yasuda zo” mark. The mark likely refers to Yasuda Gensei (d. 1932) who founded the Yasuda Ceramic Company in Kyoto in 1896. This piece likely dates slightly before the establishment of the company (circa 1890-1896). The interior and base are both glazed except for the foot rim and interior of the mouth. 9 3/8” high x about 7 1/2” diameter. Very good overall condition with minor areas of pigment transference to the background and typical signs of wear. There is one tiny nick at the mouth rim (see close-up image).
