item#: 1503275
price: $350.00
Chinese late Qing dynasty cylindrical form gilt bronze archer’s thumb ring with a central open work section featuring alternating styles of shou symbols decorated with fine chased dots set against a fine mesh screen. An old collector’s label with the ring describes it as a “Mandarin’s scent ring.” Late 19th to early 20th century. 1 1/8” high x 1 3/8” diameter. Weight: 34 grams. Very good overall condition. The removable unmarked interior liner shows significant patina. Wear to the fine mesh is evident. From the collection of a descendent of Francis Byron Nightingale, an electrical engineer with General Electric, who worked in China from about 1920-1922 helping the country convert to electricity.
