price: SOLD
Pair of Chinese late Qing dynasty blue-glazed porcelain brush rests moulded in the form of a five-peaked mountain range and decorated on both sides with flowers and foliage. Circa 1900. Each measures about 3 3/4" long x 2 3/4” high. Very good overall condition. There is a tiny glaze flake at the bottom of the darker brush rest and there is a faint hairline crack extending around the shortest finger on the right side of the lighter brush rest (see enlargements). From the collection of a descendent of Francis Byron Nightingale, an electrical engineer with General Electric, who worked in China from about 1920-1922 helping the country convert to electricity.
