Chinese Qing Yongzheng Mark Blue White Porcelain Dragon Wall Teacup
item#: 1500211
price: SOLD
Chinese Qing dynasty porcelain teacup decorated in underglaze blue on a white porcelain ground with a four-clawed dragon chasing a flaming pearl in the center well. The sinewy body extends over the rim to wrap around the exterior. A six-character kaishu Yongzheng mark is within a fine blue circle on the glazed base. According to Wang Qingzheng in “A Dictionary of Chinese Ceramics,” this style of decoration where the design begins in the interior and wraps “over the wall” to continue onto the exterior (or vice versa) emerged in the Ming dynasty and flourished in the Yongzheng, Qianlong, and Daoguang periods. 3 3/4” diameter x 1 3/4" high. Possibly of the period but no later than Guangxu (circa 1900). Very good overall condition with minor signs of surface wear consistent with its age and use. From the collection of a former American expatriate to Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.
