Chinese Ding Style Deep Dish Shallow Bowl Moulded Dragon Clouds
item#: 1499991
price: $225.00
Chinese Ding style shallow dish with wide mouth and small base covered overall in a creamy ivory-white glaze and moulded in the interior with a three-clawed dragon among clouds. Glazed base and foot. Unglazed rim for firing upside down. 9 1/8” diameter by 1 3/8” high. The effort to produce high quality Ding ware reproductions in China apparently began after Cultural Revolution in 1978. Their imitation works were so successful that they were exhibited in Hong Kong in 1984. Likely produced at the Ding kiln in the 1980s when the collector was residing in Beijing. Very good overall condition. Tiny bits of grit are embedded in the glaze on the bottom. There is a fine separation that occurred during firing where the glazed moulded portion meets the unglazed rim border. From the estate of Gerhard Lohmeier, a Diplomat at the German Embassy in Beijing from 1985 to 1989.
