Chinese Song Yuan Stoneware Urn Vessel Jun Type Glaze Dragon
item#: 1499851
price: $350.00
Unusual early Chinese cylindrical form stoneware vessel or urn with bulbous bottom covered overall with a mottled blue/purple/gray Jun type glaze that extends down to the unglazed base. Two moulded relief floral panels on opposing sides are each flanked by two dragons extending vertically along the sides. A full sun with rays is centered above each panel. Measures 9 3/4” x 6 1/4." The relief moulded decoration is consistent with Song dynasty funerary objects and the crude glaze may indicate early attempts at a Jun glaze. Likely Song dynasty (960-1279 AD) but no later than Yuan dynasty. There are significant firing defects to the glaze revealing gaps, losses, and burst bubbles. From the estate of Gerhard Lohmeier, a Diplomat at the German Embassy in Beijing from 1985 to 1989.
