Massive Chinese Qing dynasty Guangxu period jardiniere decorated in famille verte enamels with two panels on the front and back, one holding a phoenix bird and one with a paradise-flycatcher, both standing on stylized rockery among peonies and flowering branches. On each side are smaller matching cartouches, one holding a fan-form scene of figures in a landscape and a second with a bird among flowers. The white ground panels are all set against a turquoise background permeated with colorful flowers and dense tiny black dots. The background extends to ruyi forms at the top that are set against a yellow band densely covered with flowers and scrolling foliage. White glazed interior and flat rim. The base is unglazed. Circa 1900. 20” diameter by 18" high. Weighs 52 lbs. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There are tiny drops of house paint splashed around the rim and upper body.
