Chinese ingot-shaped box with cover decorated in underglaze blue on a white porcelain ground with a pair of phoenix birds chasing a flaming pearl among clouds within a panel on top. Additional phoenix birds are in flight within friezes around the sides and base. A band of flowers in a zigzag pattern is at the top and bottom rim. White interior and base. Ming dynasty Wanli period six-character mark to base. Likely Republic period. 11 1/4” long x 6 1/2" wide x 1 7/8" high. Very good overall condition. There are old browned surface scratches in the glaze. From the estate of Gerhard Lohmeier, a Diplomat at the German Embassy in Beijing from 1985 to 1989.
