18"H Chinese Qing Blue White Porcelain General's Helmet Jar Shuangxi
item#: 1483699
price: $675.00
Large late Qing dynasty Guangxu period Straits lidded baluster form jar, or "general's helmet jar" (jiang jun guan), decorated in underglaze blue against a white porcelain background with four “shuangxi” symbols (indicating double-happiness and wedded bliss) surrounded by a stylized pattern of pencil style scrolling sweet pea flowers and vines (symbolizing “many children”). The interior and base are glazed but the foot rim and mouth are unglazed. Apocryphal four-character Ming Chenghua mark to the base. 18” high x about 9 1/2” diameter. Late 19th century to circa 1900. Very good overall condition. The rim has a small old repair, an old brown hairline, and a small production flaw (see close up images). From the estate of Gerhard Lohmeier, a Diplomat at the German Embassy in Beijing from 1985 to 1989.
