Chinese Qing Straits Blue White Porcelain Narcissus Dish Bulb Bowl
item#: 1483344
price: SOLD
Chinese Qing dynasty rounded diamond form four-footed Straits porcelain narcissus dish decorated on the sides in underglaze blue on a white ground with four “shuangxi” symbols (representing double-happiness and wedded bliss) surrounded by a stylized pattern of pencil style scrolling sweet pea vines (symbolizing “many children”). The undecorated interior was intended to hold pebbles or dirt in which plants or bulbs could be grown. The flat rim holds a geometric band. 10” long x 8 1/8” wide x 2 1/2" high. Late 19th century. Very good overall condition. There is a small production flaw to the rim. It is glazed over and is not a chip. From the estate of Gerhard Lohmeier, a Diplomat at the German Embassy in Beijing from 1985 to 1989.
