Thai Rattanakosin period gilded and lacquered bronze Sakyamuni Buddha figure seated cross-legged in meditation on a plinth with hands in dhyana mudra. The figure is modeled with the characteristic serene face and downcast almond eyes, elongated ears, curled headdress, and flaming usnisa. He wears an elaborately patterned robe draped with one shoulder bare. 19th century. 17 3/8" high; base: 12" wide x 7 1/2" deep; 8 1/2" from edge of knee to edge of knee. Weighs 16 lbs. The base has a casting flaw separation with possible old repair. There is flaking of the black lacquer and wear to the gilt and red pigment. Additional close-up images are available on request.
