23" High Chinese Qing Blue White Porcelain Floor Vase Straits Shuangxi
item#: 1471739
price: $550.00
23 1/4" high Chinese late Qing dynasty Guangxu period baluster form floor vase decorated in underglaze blue against a white background with “shuangxi” symbols (indicating double-happiness and wedded bliss) surrounded by a stylized pattern of pencil style scrolling sweet pea vines (symbolizing “many children”). This type of decoration with a sweet pea floral background was produced for the Straits Chinese communities and is also referred to as blue and white nonya ware or "Shanghai ware" (see “Straits Chinese Porcelain: A Collector’s Guide” by Ho Wing Meng). Late 19th century. This is NOT a modern reproduction. Very good overall condition. There are old hairline cracks to the base. From the Arizona collection of a former expatriate to Guangzhou and Beijing from 1983-1987.
