Japanese mitsugiri-ban format vertical shin hanga woodblock print by Takahashi Shotei, also known as Hiroaki (1871 - 1945) depicting a female figure holding a lantern and walking through blossoms at night. This image is one of three variant designs titled “Spring Evening” published by Watanabe circa 1936. The title “Yayoi” is in black at the lower right and there is faint unreadable evidence of a red artist’s seal below it. Paper size: 14 5/8” x 6 3/8.” This image is cataloged as #M-12 on the informative website www.shotei.com. The print is in very good overall condition with baren marks plainly visible on the back. There are no margins. A few small brown foxing spots are on the back. One shows through as a tiny pin-sized dot on the front to the left of the lantern. The very top edge has a tiny slit and loss at the left corner. The small tag for H. Takemura & Co. in Yokohama is on the bottom of the back.
