Japanese Meiji Satsuma Earthenware Quatrefoil Vase Kizan Mark Cranes
item#: 1427955
price: $850.00
Japanese late Meiji period Satsuma earthenware diamond form quatrefoil vase raised on four feet decorated in gilt and polychrome enamels set against a finely crackled cream-colored ground. A scene with four cranes in a watery landscape extends across two of the four sides. A square gold unreadable seal is at the lower right. The opposite sides feature a beauty with a fan seated beside two scholarly men, one holding a calligraphy brush. Floral and geometric bands extend along the bottom, shoulder, raised neck, and mouth. An impressed “Kizan” mark with flower is on the base. Early 20th century. 10 3/8” high. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Typical minor wear to the pigments. From the estate of Tucson educator, Noel Ring.
