Pair of Japanese Satsuma earthenware inverted pear form vases decorated in a dense polychrome enamel and gilt millefleur pattern featuring flowers of the four seasons. An abstract band encircles the top of the shoulder and the base. Late Meiji/Taisho period (early 20th century). The base holds a "kotobuki" (congratulatory) mark in gold on a rust-red cartouche. Slightly different heights measuring about 6 1/8" and 6 3/8" high. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs.
