item#: 1319872
price: SOLD
Korean Joseon dynasty (early 20th century) brush pot designed with three cylindrical connected brush holders of varying lengths carved with a variety of animals, including a stalking tiger, tortoise, deer, and crane all stained in a golden brown against a dark brown recessed background. The animals are set among pines and bamboo. A pair of tortoises walk on water. The tallest brush holder holds four ideographs surrounded by a fretwork band. The cylindrical pots share a single flat undecorated base. Staggered sizes: 7 ½” high, 6” high, and 4 ¼” high. Very good overall condition with only one fine vertical separation in the bamboo of the shortest brush holder. This brushpot is from the private collection of a former American expatriate to Asia in the 1980s.
