Chinese Qing dynasty Qianlong period famille rose biscuit-enameled porcelain figure depicting Guandi (God of War), who is also known as Guanyu and Guangong, with long beard seated on a plinth dressed in a belted scale-pattern armored robe decorated with dragons among clouds, a flaming pearl, and foaming waves. In his right hand, he holds a historical book titled “Commentary of Zuo.” His head, beard, and hands are without enameled decoration. The recessed base and flat foot are unglazed. A Qianlong date and an old collection ID number are visible on the base. 10 1/2” high. 18th century. Very good overall condition. Invisible fine quality restorations have been made to the end of two fingers on the left hand. Two similar though smaller figures attributed to the 18th century can be found in the Christie’s archives as lot 337, Sale 4040, 21 June 2006, London South Kensington. This figure is from a Tucson, Arizona estate.
