Large Chinese Qing dynasty Qianlong period hexagonal form Yixing pottery tea caddy or canister. The flat panels are decorated with four moulded vertical stylized "dan" (tranquility) characters flanked by two bats each, symbolizing happiness and joy. The curved shoulder is encircled with small, impressed flowers. The bottom corners extend onto short, flat feet along the edge of the base. The lid is metal. 8” high x about 6” diameter. 18th century. Very good overall condition. From the private collection of a former American resident in Guangzhou and Beijing from 1983-1987.
