Japanese Woodblock Print Shiro Kasamatsu Toshogu Ueno
Japanese woodblock print by Shiro Kasamatsu (1898-1991) titled "Cherry Blossoms at Toshogu Shrine, Ueno Park" dated 1935. Later postwar lifetime edition bearing the .6cm circular seal of the publisher Watanabe. It is not a recent Heisei edition. The artist's black ink signature and red seal are located at the right side of the image. Paper size: 15 1/4"V x 10 3/8"H (image: 14 1/4"V x 9 1/2"H). Good overall condition with full margins. The print is lightly sunstruck (the area not covered by the previous mat is faintly discolored) and the paper is slightly bent across the top section. There is one barely visible pinhead-sized loss to the pigment on the bend at the right side. One faint tape stain mark is at the center top margin. A color illustration of this image can be found on page 137 of "Collector's Value Guide to Japanese Woodblock Prints" by Sandra Andacht, Krause Publications, 2000.
