Chinese Qing Yixing Zisha Teapot Grapevine Motif Carved Wood Bat Lid

Chinese late Qing dynasty Yixing stoneware teapot of buff colored clay with globular body, fixed upright U-shaped handle, and slightly concave base. The body is decorated around the circumference with relief applied leafy grape vines. The spout and handle are formed to resemble knotty twigs. The lightweight wood lid is deeply carved with three bats. There is a single hole for the spout. 19th century. 9 3/4" high (to top of handle), about 6 3/8” (to top of lid), about 9” across (edge of handle to tip of spout). Typical soiling and wear from use and minor losses to the applied decoration. The wood lid is possibly a replacement. From the private collection of American expatriates who lived in Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.
