Chinese Art:Paintings and Prints

After Zhang Daqian Chinese Scroll Painting Lotus 1977 Arizona Estate
item#: 1457120
price: $500.00
Chinese ink and color on paper scrolled painting after Zhang Daqian (1899-1983) titled in pencil on the back “Lotus” dated in cycle years to the fourth month of 1977 and signed 79-year-old Yuan Fan with two red artist seals reading “Zhang Yuan zhi yin” and “Daqian Jushi” and one 9-character red seal at the lower right. The signature “Yuan Fan” can be found on lot 1303 of Sotheby’s New York March 23rd, 2018 sale. The two seals below the inscription appear to match two seals on lot 8007 of Bonham’s San Francisco sale of December 19, 2016. However, I cannot attribute the painting to Zhang Daqian, so it has been priced accordingly as a painting after the artist. Painting: 53 7/8” long x 26 7/8” wide, (scroll: about 7’ long (85”) x 32” wide). Very good overall condition. There is crackling visible in the yellow pigment and other indications suggesting it is not a woodblock printed reproduction. There is some minor creasing and soiling to the mount and there is a small paper loss to the scroll mounting at the top back. From a Tucson, Arizona estate.
