Japanese limited edition woodblock print by French artist Paul Jacoulet (1902-1960) titled "The Master Potter Korea" (Le Maitre Potier Coree) published September 22, 1940. The print depicts a male potter painting a Korean vase. This print is illustrated on page 60 (plate 69) of “The Prints of Paul Jacoulet” by Richard Miles, 1982. It is described on page 105. The print is pencil-signed and bears the red butterfly seal at the lower right corner of the image. The seals of the carver and printer (Maeda/Honda) are at the lower right margin corner. A red seal verso holds an edition number of 57/350 (second printing). The 'PJ' watermark is at the lower left margin. The title is at the right side of the bottom margin. Paper size: 17 1/2" x 14" (image size: 15 3/8” x 11 3/4”). Good overall condition with full margins. There is some toning to the margins and back that extends into the image at the top. A light stain is evident on the vase. A mat burn line is faintly visible along the right side of the print, particularly at the bottom right corner. There is tape residue and two archival hinges on the back at the top. This print was purchased directly from Paul Jacoulet in Karuizawa, Japan by the owner's mother.
