Chinese Song Dynasty Qingbai Yingqing Glazed Porcelain Granary Model
item#: 1411570
price: $225.00
Chinese Song dynasty qingbai (yingqing) porcelain cylindrical model of a granary, or grain silo (cang), with a high foot and pyramidal form roof cover. The pale blue-green crackled translucent glaze extends over a body decorated with vertical cord patterns and a lid covered with modeled cord intended to resemble tiles. The underside of the cover, base, and interior are unglazed and burnt orange. Granaries were funerary objects used to hold grain and other possessions the deceased might require in the afterlife. Circa 13th century. 5 3/4” high x 5 1/4” diameter (lid). Good overall condition. There is an old brown crack or firing flaw along the side which appears to be from the original production. From the private collection of a former American expatriate to Guangzhou in 1983-1984.
