item#: 1407445
price: $400.00
Japanese Edo period woodblock print depicting two courtesans of the Yoshiwara from the series "Hana Ayame Futari Zoroi" by Kikugawa Eizan (1787-1867). Eizan, who was the master of Eisen, specialized in designing prints of beautiful women. The "kiwame" censor's seal (used prior to 1842) and the seal of the publisher Izumiya Ichibei (Senichi) Tobei are at the lower right. The title and artist's signature are at the left edge. Dates circa 1810s. The paper size is nearly 15" x 10 1/8." Very good overall condition. There are a few small wormholes and there is some fading and soiling evident. A thin backing is causing some slight waviness to the paper.
