17th century hand colored copperplate engraving by Dutch artist Arnold Montanus (ca. 1625-1683) titled “Jemping” (modern day Nanping in Fukien Province) from “Die Nieuwe en Onbekende Weereld” (The New and Unknown World) published by Jacob van Meurs in 1671. The image illustrates a bustling scene of daily activities set against a view of the city with mountains in the background and clouds in the sky. Image size: 10 3/4” x 13 1/2" (plus margins). Framed size: 17 1/8” x 19 5/8.” Very good overall condition with only faint discoloration evident. Typical centerfold. Framed in Hong Kong. From the collection of a former expatriate to China from 1983-1987.
