Oversized Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga woodblock print by Tadashi Nakayama (b. 1927) titled “Afternoon in Blue.” The print was executed in bold colors with gold and silver highlights set against a brilliant blue background. This vertical image is pencil-signed “T. Nakayama,” numbered 32/85, and dated 1982 in the bottom margin. The red Nakayama seal is on the back. Paper size: 42" x 28” (image: 35 3/8" x 23”). Very good clean overall condition with excellent color and large margins. There is possibly extremely pale evidence of being sun struck in the margin. The print was backed with a fine white paper by the Kato Gallery at the time of purchase. There are two tiny pieces of tape to the top back margin edge and two to one side. This image was purchased in Japan at the time of production and is from a Phoenix, Arizona collection. A color illustration of this image can be found on plate 204 of “T. Nakayama” published in 1989.
