Chinese Qing Guangxu Mark & Period Famille Rose Yellow Birthday Bowl
item#: 1364686
price: SOLD
Chinese Qing dynasty Guangxu mark and period “birthday” or “eternal spring” bowl, decorated on the exterior in famille rose enamels and gilt highlights with four medallions, each containing an iron-red and gilt seal-script character (wan shou wu jiang), symbolizing boundless longevity, set against a yellow ground densely covered in polychrome ribbons, pearls, clouds, and Buddhist swastikas. Foaming waves encircle the high recessed foot. A leiwen (cloud and thunder) band extending around the outer edge ends in a fine gilt line at the rim. A central circular shou (long life) medallion surrounded by five rust-red bats is in the interior well. The base bears a six-character iron-red kaishu Guangxu mark. 7 3/4” diameter x 3 1/4” high. Very good overall condition with only minor wear evident. An invisible professional restoration has been made to a tiny chip at the rim. From an old Phoenix, Arizona collection.
