Chinese Ming Zhangzhou Swatow Blue & White Porcelain Phoenix Dish
item#: 1363829
price: SOLD
Chinese late Ming dynasty Wanli period Zhangzhou (Swatow) porcelain deep dish decorated in underglaze blue on a white ground with a roundel at the center holding a phoenix bird standing on a rock under trees in a landscape. A thick border of six floral panels reserved on a fish scale background surrounds the rim. Typical sand grit to the base. 16th/17th century. 11 3/8” diameter x 2 1/4” high. Very good overall condition. There are some encrustations adhering. There is a faint, thin brown line (see enlargement) that is possibly an old hairline, but looks more like a mark from an associated calcification. From the Arizona collection of German expatriates to Indonesia in the 1970s.
