Chinese Ming dynasty Zhangzhou (Swatow) porcelain deep dish decorated in green and iron-red overglaze enamels with two birds alternating with two flowers in the center surrounded by leafy foliage. Eight alternating panels of fruit and flowers on a crossed line ground extend in a band around the rim. The decoration is set against a cream-colored ground with a gray tint. Characteristic sand grit to the base. 16th to 17th century. 9 5/8” diameter. Good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is typical wear to the overglaze enamels and there are a few small production flaws to the back of the rim.
