Japanese limited edition highly embossed cement mortar block print self-printed by Haku Maki (1924-2000) depicting a single bright orange persimmon attached to a glossy black twig set against a matte black background. The embossed leaves and branch are covered in a lacquer-type substance that glistens. Maki’s designs were created by inscribing on wet cement. Produced in the 1970s, the persimmons prints are among the artist’s most desirable images. The print is pencil-signed, titled “Persimmon-M,” dated ’79, and numbered 93/206 in the bottom margin. The artist’s red seal (known to have been used in the 1970s) is at the lower right section of the image. Paper size: 10 3/4” x 9 1/2” (image: 9 1/8” x 7 7/8”). Very good overall condition. There are two tiny, very faint tape stains on the back top and bottom margin. Maki’s persimmon prints are described and illustrated on pages 85-87 of Dr. Daniel Tretiak’s informative text “The Life and Works of Haku Maki.”
