Impressive Japanese ink and color on paper horizontal handscroll measuring over 30 feet in length depicting an Edo period genre scene of a large daimyo procession passing through the center of a village. The villagers are engaged in all manner of activities. As the scene unfolds, there are also scenes of battles and encampments. Scroll: 19 3/4” x approximately 32 feet in length. 19th century. Very good overall condition with typical wear and soiling visible. There are some repairs to old worm holes and mends to a few tears evident. This scroll is from an old Tucson, Arizona collection. It was originally purchased in New York in the mid-century.
