Mirror Pair Chinese Republic Blue White Porcelain Vases Qianlong Mark
item#: 1341751
price: SOLD
Mirror pair of Chinese Republic period porcelain fanghu form vases decorated in underglaze blue on a white ground with a continuous scene featuring three figures at the gate of a traditional building. A compound wall extends around the narrow side to end with leafy plants among rockery at the back. The edge of the gate with foliage and rockery is on the opposite narrow side. Two dragon handles are at the neck. The white glaze extends down the interior from the flat rectangular top. The squared bulbous main section ends at a short rectangular bottom with unglazed flat foot dressed dark brown. The recessed base holds a zhuanshu form six-character Qianlong mark. Each measures about 8 1/2” high, 4 5/8” wide, 2 7/8” deep. Early 20th century. Very good overall condition. There is a barely visible fine hairline crack on one vase under the glaze that does not catch with a fingernail. From an old Scottsdale, Arizona collection. The current owners purchased the pair of vases in Oregon in 1978 from the collection of Rose Wong, an American missionary to China who married a native Chinese. She acquired the pair in China prior to the Japanese occupation. A copy of the 1978 receipt is included in the images.
