Large Chinese Qing Dynasty Painting Scholars and Ladies in a Garden
item#: 1332555
price: $2,350.00
Large framed Chinese late Qing dynasty ink and color on paper painting of a densely arranged garden scene featuring scholars examining a scrolled painting at the center, aristocrat ladies with attendants and children seated on a veranda at the top, and several groups of men at the bottom, including a few who are encountering a Buddhist lion dog at the bottom corner. The scenes are set among rockery, flowers, and foliage. The unsigned painting is finely rendered with significant detail. Late 19th century. Framed size: 35 ¼” x 63 ¼.” The painting has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be mounted to board. Visually, it is in very good overall condition for its age. There are some typical small paper losses, cracks, old repairs, and areas of minor soiling. The edges suggest it might have been trimmed. The painting was purchased in New York in the 1950s and is from an old Tucson, Arizona collection.
