item#: 1326413
price: SOLD
Chinese Qing dynasty blue and white export porcelain lidded square form canister used to store tea and spices densely decorated in a deep blue in the Canton pattern with a continuous landscape scene of boats on a lake, figures in pavilions, willow trees, bridges and traditional buildings. The slightly domed lid features boats on a lake with traditional huts and mountains in the background set within a rain and cloud border. 19th century. 4 1/4” high x 3 3/4” square. Good overall condition. An old browned hairline in the interior extends part way across two of the sides. It is barely visible on the outside. There are tiny old chips on three corners of the lid and typical firing imperfections. This type of canister is illustrated on page 104 (plate 292) of “Chinese Export Porcelain: Standard patterns and forms, 1780-1880” by Herbert, Peter and Nancy Schiffer, 1975. From the private collection of a former American expatriot to Guangzhou and Beijing from 1983-1987.
