Chinese Qing Dynasty Silk Qing Lu Painted and Embroidered Panel
item#: 1318356
price: SOLD
Chinese Qing dynasty silk painted and embroidered panel finely rendered with a scene of an official and attendant on horseback passing traditional buildings set among clouds, rockery, and pine. Ink and color wash in "qing lu" (blue-green) colors provide accents and detail. The scene describes a Tang story of travelers heading to the 60th birthday celebration of a high official. The three gilt characters along the right side, "bed filled with hu," imply that the official had many sons and sons-in-law who were court officials. Ivory "hu" tablets were used by court officials during imperial audiences to hold notes and answers and to record the Emperor's words. 18th/19th century. Painting: 70 3/8” x 16 3/4”. Very good overall condition and color with intact embroidery. The panel has been stored rolled away for many years and requires flattening, but would be easy to ship. There is one small black ink mark at the mid-section and another narrow light stain below it. There is some typical wear to the gilt characters and very minor soiling.
