Chinese oval form jade openwork plaque carved with a design of the two Daoist immortals, Hehe Erxian, standing on a bridge. Symbols of harmony and union, the laughing twins are frequently associated with marriage. The jade plaque shows fine detailing and has a pale celadon-gray hue. The plaque has been inset into a silver filigree brooch with enamel inlay. Marked “SILVER” on the back. Late 19th to early 20th century. 2 1/8” x 1 1/2” (jade); 2 5/8” x 2” (brooch). Very good overall condition. From a Scottsdale, Arizona estate.
