Pair Chinese Republic Famille Rose Porcelain Weiqi Go Vases
item#: 1264744
price: SOLD
Pair of Chinese Republic period porcelain vases densely decorated in famille rose enamels with a continuous central figural panel holding scholars playing wieqi (go) in a garden setting. The shoulder, neck, and base are covered in a dense pattern of lotus leaves and scrolling foliage. The high recessed base bears a square iron red apocryphal four-character Qianlong mark. Two coral-red pierced lingzhi spray handles flank the neck which rises to a trumpet mouth bordered by a pattern of ruyi heads. The vases are very heavily potted for their size. Early 20th century. 7 3/8" high each. Very good overall condition. The very top of one handle on one of the vases has been expertly restored. The restoration is invisible to the eye. These vases are from a Sun City, Arizona collection. They were inherited from an uncle who purchased them in China in 1945 following World War II.
