price: $800.00 Pair
Pair of large Chinese Republic period slender zun vessel form flower vases (huagu) carved and incised in a fahua style and decorated in the susancai colors of green, white, and aubergine. The trumpet-shaped neck is encircled with a band of stiff plantation leaves; the central section is surrounded by four molded relief butterflies spaced between four vertical notched flanges; and a band of stylized archaic forms extends around the splayed base. The decoration is set against an egg-yolk yellow background permeated with incised key-fret bands. The glaze extends inside nearly to the central bulb and covers the base and foot. The base holds an incised apocryphal six-character Qianlong reign mark. Each measures 12 5/8” high x 6 5/8” diameter at the mouth. Early 20th century. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. This pair of vessels is from an old Arizona collection. They were acquired in the mid-20th century and were subsequently brought to the U.S. from Europe.
