Japanese Edo period woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) titled "Peonies" and representing spring from the rare series "Flower Gardens in the Four Seasons" (Shiki no hanazono) published by Aritaya Seiemon between 1849-51. The signature of the artist, publisher's seal, and date/censor's seals are all at the lower right. The print is tipped at the upper corners to the original presentation folder. Vertical oban size measuring about 14 5/8"V x 9 7/8"H. Very good color and overall condition. There some faint discoloration in the background at the upper left and there are a few tiny spots to the right of the signature. The print is not backed and the baren marks are clearly visible on the reverse. This print is described and illustrated on the website of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
