Japanese Edo period woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) titled "Hydrangea" and representing summer from the rare series "Flower Gardens in the Four Seasons" (Shiki no hanazono) published by Aritaya Seiemon between 1849-51. The signature of the artist, publisher's seal, and date/censor's seals are all at the lower right. The print is tipped at the upper corners to the original presentation folder. Vertical oban size measuring about 14 5/8"V x 9 7/8"H. Very good color and overall condition. There some faint discoloration in the background and there is a small printing flaw at the lower right. The print is not backed and the baren marks are clearly visible on the reverse. A few prints from this series can be found on the website of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
