Japanese Edo period woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) titled "Chrysanthemums" and representing winter from the rare series "Flower Gardens in the Four Seasons" (Shiki no hanazono) published by Aritaya Seiemon between 1849-51. The signature of the artist, publisher's seal, and date/censor's seals are all at the lower right. The print is tipped at the upper corners to the original presentation folder. Vertical oban size measuring about 14 5/8"V x 9 7/8"H. Very good color and overall condition. There is a small stain in the grassy area at the lower left and there is some faint discoloration in the background at the upper left. The print is not backed and the baren marks are clearly visible on the reverse. A few prints from this series can be found on the website of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
