Large Chinese Qing Blue & White Shou Longevity Porcelain Bowl
item#: 1179969
price: SOLD
Large Chinese Qing dynasty deep porcelain bowl decorated on the exterior with two rows of alternating underglaze blue stylized "shou" (long life) characters, written in two different styles, set against a grayish-white porcelain ground. There is an unglazed circular ring in the well of the bowl where another bowl would have been stacked in the kiln for firing. At the center of the unglazed ring is a square underglaze blue stamped mark holding two unrecognizable characters. The recessed base is glazed and the unglazed foot rim is covered in kiln grit and porcelain residue. This bowl was probably made at a local kiln in Northern China. Similar bowls were recovered from the Tek Sing cargo (1822). 9 3/4” diameter by 4 ¾” high. Early 19th century. Very good overall condition. From the private collection of a former American resident in Guangzhou and Beijing from 1983-1987.
