Chinese Ming Dynasty Geyao Blue & White Porcelain Vase
item#: 1168925
price: SOLD
Chinese late Ming dynasty crackle-glazed porcelain pear-shaped vase with bulbous base, waisted neck, and flaring mouth decorated with scattered underglaze blue cobalt butterflies and leafy fruited and flowering twigs. The white glaze has a faint celadon-blue hue with brown crackles. The foot rim is unglazed and the glazed base bears an underglaze blue square form "yu tang jei qi" mark, which means something like "an excellent ware from the hall of jade." The mouth rim has a thin line of pale brown applied wash. The glaze extends into the interior and is more finely crackled than the exterior. 9" high. Circa 17th century. Very good overall condition. This vase is from the private collection of a former American resident in Guangzhou and Beijing from 1983-1987.
